I can’t get any pressure on the low side on a/c but hi side has pressure.


No pressure on low side

This is an indication of a restriction.

On a fully charged system, insufficient low-side pressure is normally the result of a restriction. A clogged orifice tube is a common cause of such problems. The high-side pressure may be elevated as the compressor attempts to force the refrigerant past the obstruction. This will quickly starve oil flow to the compressor and cause a catastrophic failure.

Fluctuating idle

Hi. I have a Hyundai Santa Fe 2009 3.3L model with a fluctuating idle, stalling issues and sometimes the engine switches off while driving, but starts up right away when restarted. Ran a scan as shown in the video below to monitor the TPS (blue line), Pedal sensor (green line), MAF (red line) and the MAP (brown line) sensors while the engine was running (beginning from idle to me depressing the accelerator up to 2,600 rpms and back down).
I noticed the MAP was highly unstable. Is that normal?
At point 318 on the horizontal axis, the engine switched off on its own, and both the TPS and MAP spiked (not sure if that’s what it’s supposed to do)!

  1. What is the relationship between the MAP and the TPS?
  2. Does the TPS determine the MAP reading or vice-versa?
  3. Can a MAP reading indicate engine compression loss?

Won’t go in drive when fuse replaced for signal lights when fuse taken out car goes in drive. Has to pass inspection to get tags please help


Seems odd that you would know just what fuse to take out. My guess would be there has been some aftermarket radio or gadget installed improperly. If this is not the case and the fuse was being replaced because it was blown, then you need to fix what ever caused the fuse to blow in the first place. I will provide you with a wiring diagram to help assist you with just that.

Hyundai Sante Fe

Becomes sluggish and wont change gears

I will do my best to explain the issue. The car starts and drives, the issue started as a random occurrence and now happens all the time. While in N I can rev the engine and it hits about 4,000 RPM then cuts itself off back down to 2,500 RPM then revs back to 4,000 RPM. Now the main issue happens while driving. The car will accelerate right up to 3,000 RPM but then becomes sluggish and wont change gears. I can put it in manual and change gears at 3,000 RPM and the car will accelerate in 2nd gear back to 3,000 RPM and wont go past that. The Crank Shaft Sensor was replaced 2 years ago and I was attempting to replace the Throttle Position Sensor but its so old the screw basically melted as I twisted the screw driver once. Am I on the right path or am I just completely wrong with the TPS… Thanks for any help I get!


The action you described when in neutral is normal. The engine computer system has a built in rev limiter that will once the engine reaches 4,000 rpm cut it back down to 2,500 rpm. Again, this is normal. This is to prevent damage to the engine and allows the manufacturer to sleep at night while warranting your car.

As for the sluggish at around 3,000 rpm or not changing gears, that would be a different story. The sluggish part may be tune up related but the gear changing issue wouldn’t be. My first guess would be a failing VSS – Vehicle Speed Sensor.  Like I said, a guess. Proper diagnostics should take place. Connecting a scan tool and extracting the diagnostic trouble codes would be the best place to start. Post all codes found for further assistance.

Hyundai Accent2003 Hyundai Accent. New battery installed but when you try and start the car all the lights come on and it clicks but engine won’t turn over.


There may be a few different reasons the engine won’t turn over.

  1. The “NEW” battery is not fully charged
  2. Battery cables or connections are corroded
  3. Starter relay faulty
  4. Burglar alarm relay activated or faulty
  5. Wiring harness damage

Generally when the ignition key is turned to the “START” position and you here several clicks(click, click, click) it indicates a weak or dead battery. If you only get one click and then nothing, it indicates loose wiring or corrosion. A soft click may be the relays. A hard click would indicate a faulty starter. You can check for battery voltage at the “S” terminal on the starter when the key is held in the “START” position. If you see battery voltage from a fully charged battery at the “S” terminal, replace the starter assembly.

2004 Hyundai SonataNo Spark

Hi I have a 2004 2.4L automatic Hyundai Sonata. I change the timing belt as it has chewed teeth. I also change the head gasket and the 2 exhaust valves on number 4 cylinder. Changed the crank sensor as it had been destroyed by the teeth that were in the timing cover. All back together and I have compression and fuel but no spark. I have checked the crank sensor installation and it is running correctly ie the sensor plate is the right way around and is running correctly through the sensor magnetic field. Ive checked all the timing marks and everything lines up on TDC after numerous revolutions. The crank sensor only has .3 Volts coming from the PCM at the connector to the CKS which I think is the problem as I believe I read it should be around 5 Volts. so it all cranks etc but no spark at the plugs. Any suggestions? My car has 92000 miles. My car has an automatic transmission. Oh I bought the car with the damaged timing belt and stuffed valves so have never heard it start and don’t know its history.

Crank Sensor Voltage

If the crank sensor is only getting .3 volts and requires 5 volts, I would start there. Check the connections and the wires in the wiring harness. Look for damaged wires or a loss of continuity. Wiggle the wiring with the test leads connected while monitoring the meter.

The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor generates a magnetic pulse signal when the engine is cranking or running. This signal is used by the powertrain control module (PCM) to detect the crankshaft position of each cylinder.

Engine speed is a very important input to the PCM. Crankshaft speed and position are the basis for many calculations made by the computer. Crankshaft position values are transmitted to the computer by pickup coils also known as Permanent Magnet (P/M) generators, Hall Effect sensors or optical sensors. The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) also known as engine speed sensor is typically located in proximity to the crankshaft.

In addition, the PCM uses the CKP sensor in conjunction with the camshaft position sensor to calculate and perform misfire diagnostics.

Burglar Alarm System

The burglar alarm system is armed automatically after the doors, hood, and trunk lid are closed and locked. The system is set off when any of these things occur:

  • A door is forced open.
  • A door is unlocked without using the transmitter & key.
  • The trunk lid is opened without using the key.
  • The hood is opened.
  • The engine starter circuit and battery circuit are bypassed by breaking the ignition switch.

When the system is set off, the alarm (horn) sounds and the hazard lamp flash for about two minutes or until the system is disarmed by unlocking the transmitter.

For the system to arm, the ignition switch must be off and the key removed. Then, the body control module must receive signals that the doors, hood, and trunk lid are closed and locked. When everything is closed and locked, none of the control unit inputs are grounded.

The door switches, hood switch and trunk lid switch are all close and lock the doors with the remote transmitter and then the system arms after 30 second.

If anything is opened or improperly unlocked after the system is armed, the body control module gets a ground signal from that switch, and the system is set off.

If one of the switches is misadjusted or there is a short in the system, the system will not arm. As long as the body control module continues to get a ground signal, it thinks the vehicle is not closed and locked and will not arm.

The receiver is integrated in the body control module.

Keyless Entry System

The burglar alarm system is integrated with the keyless entry system. The keyless entry system allows you to lock and unlock the vehicle with the remote transmitter. When you push the lock button, all doors lock. When you push the unlock button all doors unlock.

The room lamp, if its switch is in the center position, will come on when you press the unlock button. If you do not open a door, the light will go off in about 30 seconds, the doors will automatically relock, and the burglar alarm system will rearm. If you relock the doors with the remote transmitter within 30 seconds, the light will go off immediately.

You cannot lock or unlock the doors with the remote transmitter if the key is in the ignition switch.

The system will signal you when the doors lock and unlock by flashing the hazard lamp once when they lock, and twice when they unlock.
